Another perfect opportunity arose this weekend to tick another venue off from The Good Food Guide.
I don’t live far from Warwick, I’ve been a few times during the day to wander around but haven’t really tried any of the food establishments. There’s a first for everything and this was it.
As you might have guessed, I like to look for lunch time deals in highly recommended places. This allows me to try more than I could afford if I went for evening menus. There’s a taster and a lunch time menu at Tailors Restaurant. I went for the lunch menu which was 2 course for £17 or 3 courses for £21.
I started with the black pudding, mushroom tartar and textures of onion. This was a light version of what I expected. I prefer my black pudding rich and bloody but this was quite different. There was a range of textures on the place and was a pleasant surprise.
I was not expecting the complimentary dish before my main. This was a game terrine and not such a small portion as you would expect for a complementary dish.
For main, I opted for the venison bolognese and this was very rich. There was a lot of venison in this dish and it was a large portion. I instantly regretted not getting the steak when I saw that though, even if there was a supplement. The fillet steak can only be described as two slabs of perfectly cooked tender pieces of meat.
After all that I definitely couldn’t squeeze in a whole apple crumble, instead I ordered just a scoop of their vanilla ice cream. It came on a bed of crumble which was crunchy and golden. Definitely the best of both worlds when you’re already full.
This was an excellent example of a seasonal menu and all of the dishes worked very well together.
I’m not sure if I would be rushing back while there is so much more to try out there but it’s definitely worth a visit for their lunch menu and a slab of that fillet steak!
